leaders have reached a deal with iran to curb that country's nuclear program. but some in washington are skeptical. their concern that iran won't end live up to its end of the bargain. mike viqueria, mixed reaction on capital hill. one reaction that knows no party lines. >> del you're absolutely right, coming from democrats and republicans. it is a simple first step says the administration to make sure in six months time as serious negotiations continue that iran will not have the ability to create a nuclear weapon. that's all they're asking for in return for concessions that iran is making about its enrichment programs, uranium, possibility to develop plutonium to weapons grade, p 5 plus one, and germany will involve or undertake a limited easing of sanctions

worth about $steven billion to iran -- $7 billion to iran. the simple man premise is this: iran cannot be trusted. the agreement inked in the wee hours of the morning. secretary kerry ahas a this to say. >> we do this with eyes wide open. you don't do this on somebody's statements to you, you do it on the basis of actions that can be verified and moreover we have kept the basic architecture of the sanctions is staying in place. there is very little relief and we are convinced that over the next few months we will really be able to put to the test what iran's intentions are. >> now, among the critics del, of course of both domestic and foreign benjamin netanyahu, the leader of israel of course who has been very outspoken over the
2:03 pm
course of the last six weeks as this agreement has taken shape, there are many in congress that believe it simply does not go far enough, to ensure that iran will not follow through. we had a telephone call with benjamin netanyahu who is sending a top national security aide here to washington to talk things over with the administration. back to congress, bob corker the top republican on the senate foreign relations committee here is what he has to say. >> looks like we have a tacitly agreed that they will be enriching for commercial purposes. i think you'll see on capitol hill again a bipartisan effort to try to make sure this is not the final agreement. because people know this administration is strong on announcements, very -- long on announcements but very short on follow-through and i think there's a lot of concern. >> so just before this agreement, president obama hosted bob corker and other key senators, again both democrats and republicans here at the
2:04 pm
white house. he wants them to hold off and harry reid in an interview out on national public radio basically signaled he is going to slow-walk this effort to apply more sanctions on iran. the administration wants them to at least put that off for six months, that appears to be the way it is going in congress now del. >> mike viqueria, in washington, thank you very much. benjamin netanyahu is sendings his national security advisor to washington. benjamin netanyahu has warned that the deal will make the world a more dangerous place. al jazeera's nick schiffrin is joining us. >> del, i think you're seeing a real rift between the united states and iran because they have a ideological difference.
2:05 pm
if iran were to break out to decide to make a nuclear weapon even after this deal it would take them only six to eight weeks. that's why israel says this deal is unacceptable. they want a deal that would completely dismantle the iranian program. keeping up the white house and the congressional pressure to make this a long term deal that dismantles the iranian program. it will try to find any intelligence any sign that iran is reneging on this nuclear deal, to try to have the white house to reimpose the sanction that cuts off the nuclear program entirely. >> based on what you are saying, what benjamin netanyahu and he is saying. how badly damaged is the relationship between the u.s.
2:06 pm
and its closest ally in the middle east? >> there is no doubt this is being called a crisis. analysts are saying this is a rift, crisis and rift they are using those terms. but at the end of the day the relationship is a strong bond and these two allies will agree to disagree. but in the end netanyahu believes iran poses an exist tension threat on iran,-- at the end of the day to dismanting the iranian program. but there's six months to get the proper deal if netanyahu thinks the white house isn't going to get a long term deal that dismantles iran nuclear program, talk more and more about a possible strike against iran, del. >> nick, thank you very much. israel meanwhile is being urged not to act its concerns.
2:07 pm
william haig asking israel to give the agreement a chance. >> we will discourage anybody in the world including israel from taking any steps that would undermine this agreement and we will make that very clear to all concerned. >> haig also telling british lawmakers he hoped the comprehensive agreement could be reached within a year but he warned world powers could strictly reverse any relief from sanctions if iran reneges. a peace conference is now set for early next year, it is hoped that geneva 2 will end the conflict. sitting across from each other talking peace. but just two will -- who will come is not yet clear. david chater has more. >> the next date in this process as brahimi described it is december the 20th when he will
2:08 pm
mediate another meeting between the russians and the americans to make sure they get the agenda correct for the peace conference here in geneva on january the 22nd. now they have so many problems to overcome. will saudi arabia attend? will iran attend? what exactly will be the makeup of the opposition groups? many of them have already said they have no intention of coming to geneva. that is going to take a lot of diplomatic maneuvering behind the scenes to try and make it a credible and useful number of people there that can make real progress in the peace talks. ban ki-moon said all the parties involved must have both vision and leadership to make this a success, to make sure that the war that's dragged on for too long now and has caused too much suffering and destruction actually comes to an end. so those are very -- very difficult diplomatic waters for the diplomats to be surviving in at the moment. they have so much to do and so
